The Area

Within Les Houches itself there are plenty of restaurants - several of which are located within walking distance of the apartment -
offering mostly regional French cuisine. There are shops and bars on your doorstep and Les Houches also has ski-outlets,
two large supermarkets, bank and cash point, pharmacy, boulangerie, boucherie, tourist office and a market every Monday morning.

And remember, if you do want the bright lights of Chamonix for a larger choice of skiing and après ski, the bus only takes
10 minutes, and the bus stops directly outside the apartment. Check out chamonix.net for some recommendations!

Getting there and away:

Getting to Les Houches:

(The journey from Geneva to Les Houches will only take about an hour)

  • Hire a car - the drive will take one hour. Car hire costs appoximately £80 per week.  We suggest you check Car Rentals for cheapest available car hire, but get a quote from a few different companies as prices may vary hugely. Geneva airport has both a French and a Swiss side. Flights from the UK arrive on the Swiss side. There is a greater range to car hire from the Swiss side, but prices are often cheaper by hiring on the French side. This involves walking through customs in the airport, which can take a long time in peak season. Bear in mind that some car hire companies are linked with the airline and often give significant reductions (you can also get reductions on car hire and airport parking with AA and RAC membership).
  • Taxi - Chamonix.net lists all of the taxis and airport transfers.
They all offer the same service, but we have found Alpybus to be cheap and efficient in the past.
  • Take a train to Les Houches station - takes a little longer than a car.

Getting around the Valley:

  • Train - it is certainly feasible to travel from the airport to Les Houches station and up and down the valley by SNCF train.
  • Bus travel - skiiers are entitled to free travel up and down the valley and the bus stops outside the apartment.
  • Car - hiring a car is usually the easiest way to get around (see above).
